How the Empire of Australia Company Started

EXT. – A Cafe in Downtown Toronto, Canada. Summer 2009.

RICHARD, late 20’s, sits at a table with a laptop in front of him. He listens to Your Ex-Lover is Dead by Stars on repeat. Into his head pops the image of a beautiful, sad woman (“Sarah”) marrying a 6-foot-tall squirrel. From that image and the music of Tom Waits, Stars and Regina Spektor, evolves the kernal of the world of the Empire of Australia.

Over the next three days, Richard writes a play, which he titles, “Your Ex-Lover Is Dead”, after the Stars song. This play includes just two elements that would survive the cataclysm of the Empire Universe’s Big Bang: Sarah Taylor and The Rabbit.

Over the next several years the nascent world of the Empire Universe began to take shape in Richard’s mind. Characters appeared and disappeared like speeding quarks. Inspirations came and formed galaxies around which planets of companies and plot lines and stories would coalesce and foment into existence.

A chance visit to the immersive experience Sleep No More in New York City served as the catalyst for the Empire Universe’s grand expression.

From this humble but auspicious beginning sprang the Empire of Australia Company: created for the purpose of immersing people in the world of the Empire of Australia.

Is the Empire Universe a parallel universe?

Yes.

Inspired by the work of Hugh Everett III (Wikipedia Entry; Empire Entry), and especially the documentary (Parallel Worlds, Parallel Lives) about his son’s journey to understand his father’s work, the Empire Universe became a full-fledged parallel universe in line with Everett’s Many Worlds Theory.
